Weill Cornell Course of Continuing Medical Education 2009

Target Audience:

Internists, adolescence-pediatricians, geriatricians, family physicians, other primary care providers as well as specialists in various fields.


Course Description:

During the year there will be eight major two-hour sessions, each session of 2 lectures are devoted to one sub-specialty of medicine or allied field. For one week in June there are twenty-seven one-hour presentations and Medical Grand Rounds focusing on sub-specialties of medicine. There will be five Q & A sessions and two "Meet the Professor" luncheons during the week for each registrant at which participants will be able to discuss matters of mutual interest with a variety of sub-specialists in small groups in an informal setting. The registrants will also be exposed to Tai-chi and the teaching of exercise to patients with a view to prevention of osteoporosis and falls.

Four additional Hands-on Workshops are OPTIONAL. Because of limited resources (teachers, space, etc) these hands-on workshops are available by pre-registration only (before June 1, 2009) and require additional tuition:

  4. Joint Pains: Case Studies

Goals & Objectives:

Although board review is not the primary purpose of the course, question-based sessions are included and are useful to candidates taking the Internal Medicine Boards or the Recertification Examination. A portion of the lectures are in the format of case-studies, a useful didactic tool.

This annual five-day course is targeted to update attendee's knowledge in the fields of internal medicine and allied sciences; emphasis is on new developments, mechanisms, concepts, newly available tests and medications. Designed to improve physicians' management of patients, every effort has been made to concentrate on practical aspects of clinical practice.

Statment of Need:

The Update Your Medicine Course addresses subjects of interest and concern of various sub-specialties in Internal Medicine. The course faculty are chosen from the larger group of faculty at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center, with emphasis with those engaged with patient care. The lectures are meant to provide recent advances in research, diagnosis and treatment. Ample time is provided for suitable Q & A for each lecture.

Weill Cornell Medical College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Weill Cornell Medical College designates this educational activity for a maximum of 44 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
