  • Statement of need: The U.S. health care delivery system is confronted with major challenges including escalating health care costs, problems with access to health care, inadequate numbers of health care professionals, and issues associated with quality of health care. In addition, there is a lot to learn from international comparisons of health care delivery systems. Physicians, nurses, administrators and students need to enhance their knowledge of health policy in order to evaluate proposals to address the challenges facing the U.S. health care delivery system.
  • Target Audience: The Colloquium is designed to address; senior faculty, mid-level and junior faculty, fellows in health services research, housestaff, medical students, nurses, and administrators from both the hospital and the medical college. It is intended to reach a broad interdisciplinary and intergenerational group of health care professionals.
  • Course Objectives: To improve patient care by increasing the awareness and knowledge of health policy issues confronting the health care delivery system. Participants should expect to learn alternative approaches to health policy issues, the relationship between politics and health policy, international aspects of health policy issues, and a variety of points of view from different members of the health care team.
