Biography
Dr. Mukherjee obtained her PhD in Life Science, working at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), India. The degree was awarded through Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Her graduate training emphasized basic research on the structure and organization of biological membranes using both steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectroscopic techniques.
Her postdoctoral training at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, as well as at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, extended these interests to the study of membrane organization and its implications in cellular functions such as intracellular trafficking, using a range of fluorescence imaging techniques.
Currently, Dr. Mukherjee is applying this knowledge base to clinical and translational research, in order to address real and current human health needs, such as the development of in vivo diagnosis for certain types of human cancers.
