Dr. Erde has implemented and enhanced a network-based digital image hypertext teaching system at Cornell University Medical College.

Dr. Erde is currently working on a network-based digital telepathology system for remote pathology diagnosis and consultation. In collaboration with Cornell's main campus in Ithaca, he is developing CU-SeeMe which allows for videoconferencing over the internet with both images and audio. Dr. Erde is also involved in projects on a pen-based physician information system and a microscope simulator for education and testing.
