She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Public Health and a Clinical Associate Professor of Public Health in Psychiatry at Weill Medical College. She was previously the Director of the Employee Assistance Program Consortium. She is an adjunct Professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work.

Dr. Austrian is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and has authored several books and articles on social work practice.
