Robert Schulman, MD, is a physiatrist, medical acupuncturist, and Chinese Herbalist. He studied acupuncture with the Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Program, Office of Continuing Medical Education, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Helms Medical Institute in 1997, and has been teaching with the program since that time. He completed a formal 450 hour program in Traditional Chinese herbal medicine at the Tristate college of Traditional Chinese Medicine in New York City. His background includes professional dance training, ten years private practice as a massage therapist, and the founding of the Santa Fe Academy of Tai Chi Ch'uan in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He completed his medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1991, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center in 1995. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine, and Medical Acupuncture. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, and a Diplomat at the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. He has served as Medical Director to the Center for Complementary Medicine at the United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester, New York. His expertise is in two primary areas: in the practice of medical acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Herbal medicine and how these approaches relate to Western biomedical-models, and in the field of touch and movement therapies in medicine and how such methods can be used to alleviate chronic musculoskeletal pain and improve motor function.

Dr. Schulman recently completed a book entitled "Solve it with Supplements", which will be published by Rodale Press this fall. The book covers science based information on western herbs and nutritional supplements, and their application to over one hundred medical conditions. He is an avid student of Ashtanga Yoga.
