X-Ray Crystallography

Structural information is critically important for understanding the function of macromolecules in normal physiological processes and in disease conditions. The information may also aid the discovery and optimization of potential therapeutic agents. X-ray crystallography is one of the most powerful methods in obtaining detailed atomic structures of macromolecules. This core is aimed at providing the equipment and expertise to assist investigators in obtaining crystallographic structures of macromolecules and in analyzing and visualizing protein structures. If for any reason you would like to know the atomic structure of your protein, whether it is a new protein with no known structure, a homologue of a protein with known structure, or a mutant of a protein with known structure, come and talk to the facility staff.

Facilities

The facility has state of the art equipment for diffraction data collection and structural analysis. This includes two Rigaku X-ray generators, two R-Axis IV imaging plate systems, and two cryo-devices for data collection at low temperatures. SGI graphics workstations are available for determination, display and analysis of protein structures.

Services
