Dr. Neil Harrison was born in England and attended Cambridge and London Universities, receiving a Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology in 1985. He did postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health with Jeffrey Barker and joined the University of Chicago as Assistant Professor in 1989, where he was promoted to Associate Professor and learned that teaching is more difficult than research. He joined WMC of Cornell in 1999 as Professor and served as Director of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience from 2000-2004. Dr. Harrison is Director of a NIH-sponsored Program Project on anesthetic mechanisms and holds other grants on alcohol research. He lives in Manhattan with two plants.
