Biography
Dr. Madelon Finkel earned her undergraduate degree from University College, New York University, and an M.P.H. in Public Health, with a concentration in health services research, also from New York University. She was awarded a Ph.D. in epidemiology and health services research from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of New York University. Dr. Finkel's professional career has been spent at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She currently holds the rank of Professor of Clinical Public Health, and was named the Director of the Office of Glboal Health in 2005. She also is Course Director for the courses offered by the Department (Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Evidence-Based Medicine, Introduction to the Health Care System, and Clinical Clerkship in Health Care Policy).
Dr Finkel's research focuses on women's health issues including cervical cancer screening in rural India, reduction of maternal mortality in Peru, and reduction of preterm birth in Brazil. She is the author of over 80 publications and 10 books on health care policy and public health issues, including mammography screening and understanding epidemiology as it relates to public policy. She is currently editing a multi-volume book on public health (Praeger Press).
Dr. Finkel was instrumental in establishing Cornell Analytic Consulting Services, which is designed to provide expert epidemiological consulting services. In addition to her faculty appointment at Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Finkel also holds the rank of Professor of Research in Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook and Visiting Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Sydney (Australia).
