Dr. Kirk W. Deitsch is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. His primary research interests are centered on the molecular and biochemical aspects of malaria parasites including such cellular processes as antigenic variation, transcriptional gene regulation, DNA replication and nuclear organization. He spent five years as a research fellow in the Malaria Genetics Section of the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases at the National Institutes of Health prior to his arrival at Weill Medical College in 2001. He is a recipient of a New Scholar Award in Global Infectious Diseases from the Ellison Medical Foundation and a Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering. He is also a recipient of a NIH research grant entitled ?var gene regulation and antigenic variation in malaria.?
