Global Health
I am very interested in bioethics in the Spanish-speaking world. In the past, I served as a consultant on bioethics to the Pan American Health Organization (part of the World Health Organization) in Santiago, Chile, and I am currently editing an anthology on Spanish bioethics with my colleague Dr. Pablo Rodriguez del Pozo in the Division of Medical Ethics and based in Doha.
I have been a been a Visiting Professor at The Complutense University in Madrid and Philipps University in Marburg, Germany. I currently travel to Germany several times a year to work on a deep brain stimulation project in collaboration with the European Academy.
I may be able to connect students with bioethics research opportunities abroad, provided they have a strong interest in bioethics and good Spanish language skills. In addition, as a Governor of the American College of Physicians, I have connections with Governors of other regions that may be helpful to students looking to work abroad.
