Research Overview
Dr. de Asis graduated from University of the Philippines with a B.S. degree, majoring in Psychology (Pre-Med, cum laude). He received his medical degree from the same university in 1985. Dr. de Asis completed his residency training in adult psychiatry at New York University (NYU Medical Center)-Bellevue Health Center in 1996. He then had a clinical and a research fellowship at Weill-Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry and has remained with the Institute since his graduation. Currently, Dr. deAsis is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and offers clinical care, training, and supervision at one of the Institutes inpatient geropsychiatric services. Dr. de Asis has a background and publications in functional neuroimaging research in geriatric mood disorders. He is an active investigator at the NIMH-supported Weill-Cornell Advanced Center for Interventions and Services Research (ACISR, P30). Dr. de Asis also serves as the Associate Director of the Institutes Geriatric Psychiatry Residency Training Program. In 2007, he received the Geriatric Academic Career Award (GACA) from HRSA, which supports his academic activities. His position as a researcher, clinician and educator provides him the opportunity to translate the scientific findings of the field, including those of the Weill-Cornell ACISR, into useful clinical knowledge and skills.
