Research Overview

Dr. Peterson has extensive experience in clinical trials in the peri-operative, inpatient and outpatient settings. She has been involved in 13 NIH funded clinical trials, and numerous foundation-funded studies studying clinical and psychosocial outcomes across a wide variety of medical and surgical populations. She has overseen the recruitment of over 2,500 patients into prospective clinical trials, with a longitudinal follow-up rate of 95 percent. Her clinical expertise is focused in the cardiovascular disease population, with an interest in long term outcomes following invasive hospital-based procedures, including cardiothoracic surgery and angioplasty. She has recently worked on developing behavioral interventions focused on lifestyle changes in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease.  Her background includes in evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of both clinical and behavioral interventions in patients with a wide variety of chronic medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, homebound elderly, general medicine, and neurosurgery patients. Dr. Peterson has expertise in the use of both quantitative and qualitative methodology.
