Edited books or volumes
Handbook of Neurochemistry and Molecular Biology. 3rd Edition Volume 5. 2007. Brain energetics Integration of molecular and cellular processes. Edited by Gary E. Gibson and Gerald Dienel. (Volume editor A. Lajtha). Springer Publishing 923 pages. The volume has 33 chapters from 87 contributors.
Special volume of Neurochemical Research 2007. 32(4/5) that is dedicated to Dr. John Blass. It includes 37 contributions and is 413 pages. The volume includes contributions from both physicians and scientists. The volume is 418 pages long. It includes 37 manuscripts co-authored by 144 different individuals from around the world. It includes contributions from twelve different countries (Italy, Hungary, Australia, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Portugal, Poland, England, Russia), five different medical schools within NY, twelve different states. The contributors include two division directors at NIH and a Nobel Prize winner. Each paper was reviewed by 3-5 experts in the area and revised accordingly. Some papers were revised three times before the necessary quality was achieved.
Mitochondria and Oxidative Stress. 2008. Edited by Gary E. Gibson, Rajiv R. Ratan, M. Flint Beal. Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences 1147. 414 pages. The book resulted from a meeting we organized. This Conference covered basic, clinical and translational (bench to bedside) research related to mitochondrial function and its roles in neurodegenerative age related diseases and their treatment. The number of abstracts was among the largest for a NY Academy of Sciences meeting. The conference was attended by 288 people from 25 countries, and registration had to be closed for lack of space. Thirty-five percent of attendees were from countries other than the U.S. There were 44 speakers of which many were the "world leader" on their subject. There were also 124 high quality poster presentations (a very large number for a meeting of this size) from many countries around the world.
