Together with WCMC faculty members Linnie Golightly and Francis Barany, I have an NIH grant to develop a method for rapid detection and identificaton of food- and waterborne organisms in stool specimens. This will be useful in resource-poor areas of the world, as well as for bioterrorism defense. We previously developed a similar tool for detecting and identifying bloodborne pathogens.
Additionally, I am author of "Medically Important Fungi: A Guide to Identification", the leading mycology text for laboratory identification of fungi from clinical specimens.
I am not currently involved in any projects abroad; however, I worked at the University of Tel Aviv for several years and have connections that might be useful to students interested in taking on a project in Israel.
