Global Health

After earning board certification in internal medicine and oncology, I turned to full-time research in host defense. I currently study host-pathogen interactions with an interdisciplinary team that seeks to bring immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, structural biology and chemical biology to bear on tuberculosis. Besides advancing the basic science, a major goal is to illustrate new approaches to antibiotic discovery in hopes of encouraging the pharmaceutical industry to re-engage in antibiotic research and development. I direct the Abby and Howard P. Milstein Program in Chemical Biology of Infectious Disease, which supports such work throughout the University. I am happy to help students find research opportunities related to global health.
