Research Overview
Transcriptional Regulation of Cardiac Growth and Development. Cardiac development is fundamental to normal mammalian embryonic development. Transcription factors are known to play a large role in cardiac development. Mutations in the genes encoding these transcription factors cause cardiac development to go awry. In our lab, we have focused our research on the transcriptional regulation of cardiovascular development. Our ongoing studies of transcriptional regulatory pathways involved in cardiogenesis include: (1) Deciphering transcriptional regulatory pathways that control mammalian cardiac growth and differentiation (2) Indentification of novel downstream target genes of TBX5 and elucidation of these TBX5-dependent interactions during cardiac development (3) Determining the role of histone deacetylases, a famiily of chromatin-modifying enzymes, in modulating transcriptional regulation of cardiogenesis
