Residencies and Fellowships

The Department of Public Health offers a two-year ACGME-accredited Residency in General Preventive Medicine. Utilizing the facilities of both campuses of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital and its affiliates, the department offers myriad opportunities for research and a comprehensive educational opportunity for postgraduate studies in these areas.

The Department also now offers a Fellowship in Public Health Research. This program provides one to two years of post-graduate training, including mentored research training, to physicians, PhDs, or other terminal degree holders interested in Public Health/Health Services Research. This training will either prepare individuals for an academic career in the field of Public Health and Health Services Research or will enable them to incorporate these disciplines into their primary specialty or area of expertise.

In addition, the Department offers a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine. The program is open to internists and psychiatrists who have completed their residency training and who wish to expand their knowledge of the evaluation and treatment of substance abuse disorders.

As part of the Public Health Department’s ongoing effort to help train its postdoctoral fellows and residents, the FLIP (“Fellows Life in Progress”) sessions were initiated to provide a forum for fellows and residents to present ongoing or planned research projects and to discuss related educational topics. In addition to the fellows and residents, program directors and faculty who supervise them or are involved in their research projects attend the FLIP sessions, as well as other faculty who can provide expertise to help with the design and refinement of their studies. The Department of Public Health is an academic department of the Weill Cornell Medical College and does not offer a Master of Public Health degree.
