A Thriving Biomedical Research Community

Biomedical research in New York City is enormously diverse and dynamic. The metropolitan area is home to 25 major academic research and medical centers and nearly 200 hospitals, research centers, and laboratories. New York City receives a larger portion of NIH funding than any other single city in the U.S., and our researchers and institutions are offered the highest number of biotechnology-related patents in the country. This is not surprising since the highest number of PhDs in biological sciences are awarded to students graduating from NYC schools and that nearly one in four New Yorkers has a graduate or professional degree.

The Weill Medical College of Cornell University is part of a large biomedical enterprise extending along York Avenue between 65th and 72nd streets on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The center's institutions, in addition to the medical college include Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences, New York Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The New York Postdocs web site was established in summer 2009 with the goal to pool information relevant to postdoctoral researchers and their families in the greater New York City area. In addition, this web site should help to establish inter-institutional connections.

Join us and participate! The career, life, and news sections are available for blogging. Share your up to date information with fellow postdocs.
