The New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Campus, in coordination with the Departments of Neurology & Neuroscience and Psychiatry, offers a 6-year residency program leading to eligibility for board certification in both neurology and psychiatry.  This program reflects the commitment of these departments, and of the Division of Neuropsychiatry, to the interdisciplinary study and treatment of brain mechanisms underlying mental function and dysfunction.  The goal of the combined program, which operates under the aegis of The Division of Neuropsychiatry, is to train physicians to evaluate, treat, and investigate cognitive, behavioral, emotional and perceptual aspects of brain dysfunction with an approach that integrates neurology, psychiatry, and the broader neurosciences.

The first (internship) year of the combined program consists of 8 months of medical rotations, and 4 months of neurologic and psychiatric rotations with a focus on neuropsychiatry.  The second and third years consist of neurology rotations, similar but not identical to those in the general neurology residency PGY II and III years, including some elective time during which the resident may pursue training in areas relevant to his/her particular neuropsychiatric interests.  The fourth and fifth year schedule is similar to that of the general psychiatry residency PGY II and III years, but also includes further training in integrated neuropsychiatry.  The sixth, and final, fellowship-like year consists of  core rotations in integrated neuropsychiatry in a variety of settings, as well as other clinical and research activities tailored to the resident’s interests within the field of neuropsychiatry.  Neuropsychiatric conferences and didactics take place throughout the PGY I through VI years.
