Connecting To WCMC Talk - Other Clients

Users may connect to WCMC Talk through any Jabber client that meets the following specifications:

  • The client must adhere to the existing Jabber specifications and behave well in its connection to the server.
  • The client must support at least one secure authentication method (TLS or old-style SSL).
  • ITS does not provide support, troubleshooting, or usage assistance for Jabber clients other than Spark.

Because each client varies in its configuration, ITS cannot provide uniform instructions for connecting to the WCMC Talk service. A client may require at least some of the following information in order to be connect:

Username: Your CWID.
Password: Your LDAP or email password.
Jabber ID: yourcwid@med.cornell.edu
Server: med.cornell.edu
Connect Server: talk.med.cornell.edu
Port Number: 5222 (TLS), 5223 (old-style SSL)

The following clients have been tested and are known to work with the WCMC Talk service:

  • Adium X (OS X)
  • Chatopus (Palm)
  • iChat AV (OS X)
  • Pandion (Windows)
  • Pidgin (Windows / Linux)
  • Trillian Pro (Windows)
