Server Computing Services

ITS provides a range of server computing services, including application and database hosting, centralized storage, and system administration. All services can take advantage of the enterprise-wide, multi-layered backup system with the additional benefit of off-site protection.

Server computing uses secure data centers at the 1300 York main campus and the 575 Lexington midtown facility, which is fully integrated into the Weill Cornell Medical College network. ITS performs full system administration for all hosted servers - covering AIX, OS X, Solaris, Linux, and Windows operating systems.

Application and Database Hosting

ITS offers hosting and system administration of applications and databases across all Medical College functions in addition to several special arrangements specifically for research. Cornell University's database standard is Oracle 9i or above, although MS SQL 2004 can be supported when Oracle cannot be used. Oracle database hosting generally includes redundancy, which is optional for application hosting. Both services can also include off-site disaster recovery. Service costs, if any, are individually determined based on the system, hardware, and Medical College function.

Research Computing

ITS offers hosting of research servers and usually performs basic system administration for those servers, whether they are single machines or small clusters. Please contact ITS for more information.
