ITS Advisory: Windows Vista

Posted: Tuesday, April 10th 2007, 5:00 PM

On January 30th, Microsoft released Windows Vista to the general public. Since its release, the Information Technologies & Services (ITS) Department has been thoroughly testing Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) software and services for Vista compatibility.

At the current time, ITS can not recommend or support Vista for use on ITS tagged machines. ITS-supported services currently fully or partially incompatible with Vista include but are not limited to:

  • ITS Runway
  • Eudora
  • Oracle Calendar
  • GE Centricity Business ("Flowcast")
  • Citrix ICA Client (used in conjunction with Epic Hyperspace)
  • Timbuktu Pro
  • WebVPN

Additionally, Internet Explorer 7 has not yet been fully qualified against ITS web services. Use of IE7 may result in non-functional or improperly displayed websites.

Due to system architecture changes in Vista, legacy peripherals such as scanners, PDAs, external disk drives, and lab equipment may require new drivers to function. Please check with the original manufacturer for up-to-date status information for devices you require.

In the immediate future all ITS-supported users should look out for more focused bulletins and information to be made available online about Windows Vista as it relates to the WCMC computing environment.

We expect all remaining issues to be worked out in the coming months. Please contact the ITS support desk at x64878, or e-mail support@med.cornell.edu if you have any further questions, concerns, or comments.
