Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Select from the menu on the left to find FAQs organized by topic. For general questions, please read below.

Q: Does ITS support Microsoft and Apple operating systems?
View answer
A: Yes. ITS supports computers with Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 and computers with Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar) or later.
Q: Does ITS support Microsoft Windows Vista?
View answer
A: Currently, Vista is not supported by ITS. Please see this advisory for more information.
Q: Why must every computer have an ITS tag affixed to it?
View answer
A: ITS uses the 6 digit tag number to keep track of all the computers it supports and allows for fast access to basic information for a computer in question. Affixing the number to the computer assures that it will be permanently associated with the device to which it is assigned.
Q: Does ITS support computers using "Windows XP Home", "Windows ME", "Windows NT", "Windows 98", or "Windows 95"?
View answer
A: No. ITS does not support computers using these operating systems because they are are either no longer supported by Microsoft (Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows 95) or they are meant for home use and do not meet ITS desktop security requirements (Windows XP Home, Windows ME).
Q: Can I use a generic brand or self-built computer on the WMC network?
View answer
A: No. These types of computers are generally unreliable or difficult to support. Please see the ITS Technology Sales site for more information about minimum computer requirements and recommendations.
Q: Can I visit the ITS offices with my computer problem or must I call the ITS Support line first?
View answer
A: While we encourage all users to call the ITS Support line first for immediate service, ITS does accept "walk-in" visits. ITS staff will deal with your concern as best as possible depending on the issue. ITS tagged laptops may be brought in for service, but will most likely need to be left for a short period of time. ITS Remote Access issues can not be handled via walk-in visits. The Information Technologies & Services Department is located at 1300 York Avenue, room D-017.
