EHS training sessions are held in the following locations:

• Uris Auditorium, located at the main entrance to Weill Cornell Medical College at 1300 York Avenue, 1st Floor
• Weill Auditorium, located at 1300 York Avenue, 2nd Floor
• WGC BC Conf Rm, located in the Weill Greenberg Center at 1305 York Avenue, 2nd Floor, B and C Conference Rooms

LABORATORY SAFETY training meets researchers' training needs and combines the former Lab Chemical Safety and Disposal (Chemical Hygiene Plan) and Bloodborne Pathogens trainings into one session. This training is in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens and Laboratory Standards and Environmental Protection Agency hazard waste disposal regulations. Participation is required on an annual basis under OSHA regulations for all laboratory workers including: graduate students, medical students, principal investigators, physicians, post-doctoral fellows, and lab technicians.

Annual refresher training is available by either:

1. attending this instructor-led course again
2. taking the on-line self-instruction Lab Safety refresher training available
3. scheduling an EHS training for your specific group (i.e. Grand Rounds, lab group).

CLINICAL AND GENERAL SAFETY training meets the needs of clinicians and other staff who may be exposed to a bloodborne pathogen or hazardous chemical, but do not work in a lab. Training topics include: Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical Hazard Communication and Fire Safety. This training is in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazard Communication Standards. Participation is required on an annual basis under OSHA regulations for all staff and students who do not work in a lab but do come in direct contact with patients; handle clinical specimens; routinely work in a clinical environment; or handle biological (red bag) waste. This includes graduate students, medical students, physicians, post-doctoral fellows, clinical and housekeeping staff.

3. scheduling an EHS training for your specific group (i.e. Grand Rounds, lab group)

LABORATORY CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS training is part of a New York City Fire Department certification process to work in laboratories. Additional information can be found at the EHS Laboratory Certificate of Fitness information web page.

BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL SHIPMENTS training for safe handling and shipping of biological materials in compliance with regulatory agencies including the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Department of Transport (DOT), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The training includes general awareness and familiarization (video), a hands-on exercise, and security awareness. Prerequisite for this training is "Bloodborne Pathogen" training for all shippers who handle human blood, body fluids, tissues, or human cell lines. Participation is required once every two years for all employees, graduate students, medical students, principal investigators, physicians, nurses, technicians and post-doctoral fellows sending, transporting, receiving biological materials or patient specimens.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS training has been revised and incorporated into other training programs to provide Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required trainings in one targeted training session depending on your workplace setting and responsibilities.

• If you work in a laboratory, attend the Laboratory Safety training.
• If you work in both a laboratory and clinical area, attend Laboratory Safety training.
• If you work in a clinical area, attend Clinical and General Safety training.
• If you do not work in a laboratory or clinical area, but you may be exposed to a bloodborne pathogen or hazardous chemical, attend Clinical and General Safety training.
