Annual Refresher Training
Laboratory Safety
(Chemical Hygiene Plan / Bloodborne Pathogens Plan)

The Laboratory Safety self-instruction refresher training reviews the exposure control principles and practices in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens and Laboratory Standards and Environmental Protection Agency hazard waste disposal regulations. This refresher training is intended for all laboratory workers including: graduate students, medical students, principal investigators, physicians, post-doctoral fellows, and lab technicians.

To be eligible to take this self-instruction refresher training, you must have already attended initial Instructor-led training.

Training is accomplished by completing the following steps:

Step 1
Verify that you have received initial Instructor-led Training. Refresher training is only available if you received initial training from EHS. Open the initial EHS training list and find your name. If you do not find your name, you have not taken the initial Instructor-led Training and do not qualify for this training. If you feel the information is incorrect, contact EHS.

Step 2
Review the Chemical Hygiene Plan, Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Fire Safety Plan (in Acrobat PDF format).

Step 3
Using the documents listed in "Step 2," complete the on-line examination. Click here to begin the exam (use your CWID and password to log in).

Note: You must provide your employee/student ID# on the exam. If you do not know your ID#, review the list of employee/student ID's sorted by last name.

Step 4
At the beginning of each month, EHS staff will score the tests and input the results. There is no need to contact EHS before that time to determine the status. A follow up email will be sent with the certificate of completion once the test is scored (80% score is passing).

NOTE: If you do not have a CWID to log into the refresher training, you may take a written refresher training. For more information, contact EHS.
