Wild Poliovirus Materials – National Inventory The world-wide efforts to eradicate polio are well underway. An important component of eradication is laboratory containment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Vaccine Program Office has been charged with inventorying all poliovirus materials in the United States. Once inventoried, laboratories containing poliovirus materials must undergo added precautions to better assure containment. Departments should use the following questionnaire to inventory poliovirus materials in their department. Laboratory investigators should contact their department chair or Administrator to find out inventorying procedures for their department. Once departmental inventories are completed, results may be returned to Environmental Health and Safety at:
EHS will file the appropriate documents for the Medical College with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Departmental inventories should be returned to EHS no later than December 18, 2002 to allow sufficient time for CDC filing. For additional questions or assistance, please contact EHS.
