Cornell Students – Fourth Year Course Requirements

In order to meet requirements for graduation, each student must successfully complete 28 weeks of coursework that include a minimum 12 weeks at the Weill Medical College (WCMC) and its affiliated hospitals. The 28 weeks must be fulfilled as follows:

Fourth Year Courses Weeks
Subinternship in either General Medicine or General Pediatrics. Only courses with "2" numbers qualify (example: MED.201.NQ, Sub-internship in Medicine – NQ) 4
Elective courses (at WCMC, other medical schools, or approved international experiences) 16
Advanced Basic Science Experiences
  • Teaching (4 weeks) Teaching Experience sponsored by Dr. Carol Storey-Johnson or
  • Basic science tutorial (4 weeks or to be arranged by Dr. Joel Pardee: X 61314, jpardee@mail.med.cornell.edu) or
  • Sixteen weeks of basic science research (done at any time during medical school) or
  • Eight weeks of basic science research in the 4th year*

Advanced Basic Science Course
  1. Offered only May 14-25, 2007 and required for the entire class.

* This is full-time basic research to be pre-approved by Dr. Joel Pardee (X-6-1314). Please submit to him a project proposal containing a Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Figures and Figure Legends.

This course will meet the Advanced Basic Science Experience requirement, and may also be used toward 4 elective credits.
