ORIGIN

Cornell University Medical Center established The Institute for Prevention Research (IPR) in 1992 to study risk factors and to develop and test behavior-based strategies for health promotion and disease prevention, particularly in the area of substance abuse among adolescents. As such, the creation of IPR complimented the clinical and biomedical research activities conducted at Cornell Medical College.

MISSION
IPR's Mission is four-fold:
To conduct basic research that seeks to advance the understanding of the behavioral causes of health problems and chronic disease.
To conduct applied research that develops and tests behavioral-based strategies and interventions for promoting health and preventing disease.
To provide professional training opportunities for medical students, physicians and allied health professionals on the behavioral aspects of disease prevention.
To educate a diverse audience including educators, parents, community leaders, health professionals and the general public through seminars, workshops and lectures.
