The Institute of Medicine has recognized Dr. Oliver Fein, associate dean of affiliations and professor of clinical medicine and clinical public health, as the first recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Health Policy Fellowship Alumni Award for Excellence in Promoting and Advancing Health Policy. The newly established award honors alumni of the RWJ Health Policy Fellowship Program who demonstrate excellence in their commitment to advancing and promoting health policy while enhancing the careers of other fellows and program alumni. Dr. Fein was selected for his efforts to promote patient-centered, community-oriented care and his commitment to encouraging the next generation of health care providers to engage in the larger issues of health policy and health care reform in America. Among other initiatives, Dr. Fein helped lead the efforts of health policy leaders interested in improving care for the most vulnerable populations in New York City. He played key roles in the development and expansion of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and Physicians for a National Health Plan (PNHP).
