Honored as the 2005 recipient of the Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award was Doris Glick, M.P.H., R.N., '64, former chief nursing officer and vice president of Patient Care Services at Weill Cornell. Cynthia Godfrey, '73, secretary of the Alumni Association, presented the award along with Linda Vecchiotti Saal, M.A., R.N., B.C., '71, president of the Alumni Association.
The Alumni Day lecture included two presentations: Ruth Fischbach, Ph.D., M.P.E., '63, director of bioethics at Columbia University, presented "Ethical Dilemmas: Promises and Perils from Stem Cells to LVADS," and Cynthia Godfrey M.S., R.N., C.N.A.A., B.C., '73 followed with "Update: Nursing at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital."
The CU-NYH School of Nursing, which closed in 1979, was one of
the leading baccalaureate nursing programs in the U.S. Founded as the
New York Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1877, the school
affiliated with Cornell University in the 1940s, awarding the Bachelor
of Science in nursing degree. The school was forced to close in 1979
when federal financing for nursing education was curtailed.
