An initiative within WMC’s Strategic Plan III includes the construction of an approximately $650 million new biomedical multidisciplinary research building located on East 69th Street off York Avenue to be completed by 2010. Named the Biomedical Translational Research Building, this will be the home for our Clinical and Translational Science Center. The 350,000 sq. ft. structure effectively doubles existing research space and also includes core laboratory research facilities and animal facilities. The cores, in addition to new space will be updated to provide centralized access to state-of-the-art equipment needed by scientists working in different departments, thereby creating economies of scale and reducing duplication of resources. Staffed by scientists with expertise in specialized technologies and monitored by faculty oversight committees, these facilities are a major part of the infrastructure that supports researchers at WMC.
